The summer holidays are six long weeks of fun in the sun. There’s no better time of the year to create lasting memories out and about with the family, but finding ways to keep the little ones entertained 24/7 can be tricky. Worry not. Ashbridge has plenty of summer holiday activity ideas to keep the family busy for the entire season.
Go Camping
Let’s start off with one of the biggest adventures summer could offer your family – camping. What better way to be one with nature and create lasting memories than living out of a tent for a few days? Whether you’re planning a getaway to the countryside or would just prefer to host a sleepover in your garden for your children and their friends, the kids are guaranteed a fun time.
Go for a Bike Ride
There are plenty of ways to explore the outdoors. The UK offers plenty of breathtaking walks that you can enjoy with the family, but have you ever thought about exploring nature on a bike? This summer holiday activity can make taking in the greenery that much more fun and can also help build up your children’s confidence when cycling.
Head to the Beach
Next up, one of our favourite summer holiday activities for kids. Wherever you live in the UK, a trip to the coast is always a good idea. So, pack your buckets and spades, flipflops and suncream, of course, and enjoy the smell of the sea, the sound of the seagulls and the feel of the sand beneath your feet. This summer, treat your little ones to an ice-cream by the sea and head to the beach.
Have a ‘Crafternoon’
When it comes to crafts, the possibilities are endless! If you’re looking to spend a few afternoons throughout the summer getting artsy, you’re pretty spoilt for choice! You could spend hours painting shells and rocks found on your travels to create unique memories of your days out, or even paint birdhouses to create an ecosystem in your garden.
There are also plenty of eco-friendly ways you can repurpose rubbish from your home! Think toilet paper frogs, floating popsicle stick boats, and more!
Plan a Nature Hunt
There’s nothing more fun than some healthy competition! Here at Ashbridge, we’re big fans of a scavenger hunt. So, why not create a list of nature-related items that your little ones have to find in your garden or in the park? We’re talking about retrieving coloured leaves, twigs, stones, or even pointing out certain mini-beasts like ladybirds, or types of flowers. Not only is this a fun adventure for little ones, but it’s also a great way to introduce them to various bugs and plants!
Plan a Summer Picnic
Whether you’re out on a bike ride, off to the beach, or having a nature hunt, it’s always a good idea to take a picnic along. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got the traditional picnic basket and blanket or just a backpack full of goodies ready to enjoy on a park bench somewhere, you can have a picnic whatever way suits you! Just watch out for ants!
Make Pavement Art
As far as we’re concerned, this is a childhood must! Most adults have probably once experienced the joys of the creative freedom that comes with making pavement art – there’s a reason it’s been a childhood classic for generations.
All you’ll need is some coloured chalk and a creative vision! Whether you’ve got pavement in your garden or need to take it to the front of your house, let your little ones go wild with colour on the pavement!
Make Ice Lollies
Staying hydrated is really important throughout the summer, especially when you’re staying busy with all of our summer holiday activities! So, why not get creative and make your very own ice lollies? Choose your little ones’ favourite flavour juices, pour them into ice lolly moulds and stick them in the freezer for a couple of hours until they’re fully frozen.
If you’re smart, you could stockpile a whole load so the kids (and parents, of course) can help themselves to a tasty lolly whenever things heat up in the garden!
