The early years education we provide at Ashbridge Day Nurseries for pre-school children has been designed to foster their confidence and independence.

Pre-School
Pre-school at Ashbridge Day Nurseries is the perfect stepping stone to prepare children for the next step of their education at Primary School. Across all four of our sites, we adopt an interest-led approach to education that allows children to learn through play.
Pre-School Nursery
Pre-school is for children aged three and four, in the academic year before they start School. In their dedicated classrooms, children attending an Ashbridge pre-school have access to an unrivalled range of facilities to support their continued social, emotional, and physical development, alongside their academic growth. Our ethos and emphasis on outdoor learning are evident in our pre-schools, where children benefit from an extensive and well-rounded outdoor education.
Not only do our children benefit from highly qualified staff teams and well-resourced classrooms; Pre-School children at Ashbridge Day Nurseries spend a significant amount of their time at Forest School or River School, depending on the facilities at their chosen site. Here, the children are encouraged to practise managed risk-taking and independent exploration to improve their confidence, independence and decision making skills.
The nurturing environment that has been created across all of our Ashbridge Day Nurseries ensures all children feel safe, secure, happy and comfortable in the care of our qualified and experienced practitioners.

“Our daughter is thoroughly enjoying her time at Ashbridge Nursery Hutton. She has built very strong relationships with the staff and other children in her class. All the staff are absolutely brilliant. They are so caring, friendly, and competent. We would highly recommend Ashbridge Nurseries.”
“We have experienced lots of positive and memorable times in both Tadpoles and Ladybirds. The staff in both rooms have made his journey memorable and you can truly tell that they care about the children they are responsible for. All staff go above and beyond for the children and always ensure they give you a detailed breakdown of what the children have done each day.”
“We could ask for nothing more of a nursery. The facilities are amazing from soft play, outside play, messy play, and all the animals. We are so fortunate our little boy is having the best experiences in his early years – We never thought we would hear he had been walking a goat! However, the best part of Ashbridge has to be the staff. The atmosphere is calm, friendly, fun, and full of love.”

FAQs

Pre-school still encourages the children to learn through play, however, we start to encourage them to ask more questions and start finding things out for themselves. We encourage the children to be more independent, helping to set the tables at mealtimes and taking responsibility for their belongings and surroundings.
Pre-school prepares children for the transition to school by providing more structure in their daily routine and slowly increasing the amount of adult input throughout the year. Once school places are released, we slowly introduce the idea of school through books and pictures and arrange visits from their prospective teachers.
In pre-school we follow the Letters and Sounds Scheme which is the foundation of phonics. It encourages the children to have to listen and identify the sounds they can hear around them. If a child is really starting to show an interest in letters, we look at the initial sounds through songs and rhymes. We start to build on children’s love of books through our home reading scheme.
