The days are getting longer. This year’s daffodils are on their way. Spring has finally sprung! There’s no question that Spring is one of the best times of year to make the most of the great outdoors with your little ones, which is why the Easter holidays come in so handy. But with two weeks to fill with exciting activities for the family, your bank of ideas may eventually run a little dry.
Luckily, Ashbridge School has plenty of suggestions for easter activities for kids to keep you busy! Take a look at our ideas of what to do during the Easter half term here.
Easter Holiday Activities
Make an Easter Bonnet
One of our favourite traditional easter activities for kids is to design an easter bonnet! Begin with a straw or wicker hat and give your little ones the freedom to adorn it with whatever trinkets they fancy. Whether they take a bunny approach or opt for a design based on one of their personal interests, that’s okay! Arts and crafts activities like this are all about giving children the opportunity to express themselves in whatever way suits them!
Egg Painting
Easter eggs are undeniably iconic and a symbol of the Spring season. So, why not get cracking and set up a crafting station in the garden for you and the little ones to get creative with your own egg designs? You can choose to either hard boil your eggs or use a pin to create a small hole at the top and bottom and gently blow the inside of the egg into a bowl, rinse, and you’re ready to go.
If you’d rather not use real eggs, you’ll be able to find non-plastic, eco-friendly alternatives online that you can decorate your home with year after year! Go wild with striped patterns, rabbit-inspired designs, or whatever you feel best represents Easter to you!
Egg Hunt
Next up, it’s time to get your children eggcited and hide those eggs. Ask your little ones to cover their eyes while you hide their newly designed eggs, either around your garden or maybe even in a local outdoor space like a park or woodland area – just to make the activity that little bit more exciting!
Once the eggs are tucked away, unleash the children for their very own Easter egg hunt!
Have an Egg and Spoon Race
Now that the children have found their eggs, let’s hop right onto the next Easter holiday activity. The classic egg and spoon race. This challenging game promises endless laughs and is certain to keep the little ones entertained. If it’s too easy, challenge the competitors to carry the spoon in their mouth rather than with their hands!
Go for a Picnic
Choose the perfect location and enjoy some wholesome family time in the sun with a feast in picnic form. Why not bring along some tennis racquets, lawn bowls, a football, or whatever activity your kids enjoy to inject some extra fun into your day? You could even bring your basket along to your egg hunt.
Visit a Petting Zoo
There are endless baby animals associated with the Easter season: chicks, bunnies, lambs, etc. So, why not take your little ones for a day out that is just as educational as it is adorable? Introduce your children to the newborns and give them the chance to feed, stroke, and pet the animals. Easter is all about celebrating new life, so what better way to enjoy the season than by seeing it with your own eyes?
