The school curriculum is broad, balanced and provides challenge for all children.
The range of subjects is wide and the children benefit from lots of time outdoors being physically active and learning about the natural world. Learning outside the classroom features heavily and the children take part in a comprehensive outdoor learning programme encompassing Forest School, Horticulture, Physical Literacy and subject based outdoor lessons as well as PE and Games. Teachers also make cross curricular links where possible as this supports understanding and deepens learning.
Children benefit from specialist teaching in PE and Games, Forest School, Music and Modern Foreign Languages. The curriculum we cover is broadly in line with the National Curriculum (2014) but is considerably enhanced and enriched. Children are also able to make decisions about their learning based on their own interest and passions too. Small classes and an individual approach to learning is key to ensuring all children reach their academic potential and do well in their subjects. While we do not undertake SATS at Ashbridge we do have a thorough and comprehensive assessment programme using externally marked assessments each year and our assessment data shows the children across the school consistently achieve within or above the expectations for their age, many achieving significantly above age related expectations in English, Mathematics and Science, making excellent progress year on year.
