World Book Day is just a turn of the page away, so it’s time that your little one settles on a costume to celebrate the special day. If you’re in need of some inspiration, however, here at Ashbridge, we’ve got shelf-loads of ideas to transform your children into iconic characters straight from the page. Keep reading our guide to hear our suggestions for outfits for World Book Day!

Where’s Wally

Your little one will be hard to miss in this iconic look! A Where’s Wally costume is possibly one of the most popular World Book Day outfit ideas, year after year. Known for his red and white striped t-shirt, beanie, blue jeans, and round glasses, this is an extremely simple outfit to put together, with pieces that can be worn again and integrated into your child’s everyday wardrobe!

Harry Potter

It wouldn’t be a discussion about outfits for World Book Day without mention of the boy who lived himself. Find your little Griffindor a dark cloak, some specs, and paint on Harry’s iconic scar. If your child already wears a school uniform, you’ll likely be able to repurpose some of those pieces into your Hogwarts student costume. Whether they dress up as Harry, Hermione, Ron, or even Draco, World Book Day wouldn’t feel right without a few wizards running around.

Wonka

Quiet up and listen down: Wonka is undeniably one of the best outfits for World Book Day! Despite the many Hollywood takes on the character of Wonka, this chocolate-loving legend remains recognisable by his quirky and eccentric looks. So, regardless of your little one’s preferred iteration of Mr Wonka himself, they’re certain to look the part.

Alice in Wonderland

Take a peek through the looking glass, and you’ll discover endless World Book Day outfit ideas. From Alice, in her iconic blue dress, to the Queen of Hearts in all her fury, we’ve got a lot of love for these timeless characters! Just be sure to have the outfit prepared in time – we wouldn’t want to upset the Hatter!

Gangsta Granny

Help your little one steal the show when they arrive at World Book Day dressed as Gangsta Granny herself. All you’ll need is a purple cardigan, black skirt, grey wig, mask, and a sack to store the crown jewels, of course! Gangsta Granny is, without a doubt, one of the MOST WANTED World Book Day costumes every year.

The Cat in the Hat

Help your child have lots of good fun that is funny when you send them to World Book Day dressed as The Cat in the Hat! Quite like Wally, The Cat is famed for his red and white stripes, but dodging comparisons is easy when you’ve got whiskers and a tail! If you’ve got twins who are wondering what to be for World Book Day, Thing 1 and Thing 2 make the perfect duo costumes – just make sure that they avoid creating the mother of all messes!

Fantastic Mr Fox

Keeping in theme with Ashbridge’s forest schools, students of Ashbridge Nursery in Hutton, Maxy Farm Nursery, and The Fledgelings Nursery might just take interest in dressing as one of the many woodland creatures from Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox! Now, this fox may be a thief, but he’s undeniably dapper and is one of our favourite World Book Day ideas.
